    Mischievous Fairies
    (Sonnet)

    I look to the rafters,
    And what do I see?
    Colorful, fanciful fairies,
    All fluttering free,
    With sparkling dust falling
    From featherlike wings,
Floating silently down on the celebrating ballroom.
    What omen could this bring?

    My instincts take over.
Being an elf, I need to explore.
    I must find out
    What they have in store.
What mischievous tricks can they be about?
I set off eagerly, but I have my doubts.

    Gotcha!

I saw a group of fairies having a raucous celebration. They were gleefully recounting the tricks they’d played on me. I donned my invisibility cloak. I slipped up behind one and reached around to pick his piece of cake off his plate. I came up behind another sitting on a rafter. I reached up and jabbed my fingers into his armpits. Startled, he fell into a punch bowl. Time for me to leave quickly.

I was a fairy in training with my fairy godmother. If I fulfilled my mission that evening, I would get a proper fairy name. My grandmother”s name was Esmeralda.. she could bewitch anything from a cow to a potato. She whispered in my ear that I was to chose someone in the audience or the performers or the orchestra and give them a short attack of belly gas. This was going to be fun.
