I stepped through the sliding doors and realized that there was something or someone laying by the pool. I almost called my husband to investigate but then I thought, “No, I can handle this.”

I grabbed a golf club for protection and headed out the door. I eased across the concrete and eventually, I got close enough to see that it was a woman. She was lying face-down in a heap on the ground.

I nudged her awake with the golf club and she turned to face me. I froze in terror as I stared at my own double!

Sleep eluded me. I crept downstairs where the brightness of the full moon beckoned. Some dark shape caught my eye. As I stepped through the sliding door, I realized there was something, or someone, laying by the pool.
The air felt brisk, cool but quiet, save for occasional lapping of water against the cement. No movement…anywhere. Shivering, I stepped slowly toward the dark form.
Crouching down, I touched a familiar quilt and yanked it away. With a gasp, I recognized the cushions of the porch swing with a beach ball at the head lying there.

    Sliding Doors

I slid open the doors to the pool area and stood there uncertainly. It wasn’t fear exactly – just a vague sense of unease. Yet, nothing looked out of place. Then I saw it – a silent figure barely visible standing in the shadows. She stepped out into the light and it was like looking into a mirror. The resemblance was that striking. She smiled and said, “I’ve just learned that you’re my twin sister and we were separated as babies. When Mom and Dad divorced, he took me and she took you.”

Is a response to the prompt supposed to start with the prompt? In other words, should the prompt be the first line of the response / story? Thanks -Kenny

I stepped through the sliding doors and realized that something or someone was lying by the pool. On closer inspection, I realized it was my husband. He’d gone in earlier for his morning swim. When I’d no longer heard the splash splash of his laps, I’d figured he was done and come out onto the patio with our coffee. Setting our cups on a nearby table, I hurried to his side. But before I could do anything else, he leaped to his feet, yelling, “April Fools!”
