Dr. Kathleen P. King is an award winning author who has published over 30 books and 200+ articles/papers. Her writing has been exclusively nonfiction previously, yet Kathy launched into fiction with 2022.
“Kathy” is a popular keynote and conference speaker, mentor, and writing consultant. As a professor for 30 years, she worked in academia as a researcher, administrator, and educator.
When you listen to Kathy speak, you’ll figure out quickly that she is from New England. She was born and raised in Rhode Island and Vermont. Throughout her adult life she has lived in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Florida, and now Tennessee. She loves to travel domestically and internationally. Ireland is her favorite foreign destination, partially because it is part of her ethnic heritage.
Career
Dr. King’s major areas of research include adult learning, diversity, research, technology innovations, transformative learning, and faculty development. She became internationally recognized for her work in several of these areas.
After several careers across the medical field, ministry and as a university professor, Kathy sustained severe vision loss. Since 2021, Dr. King lives in Knoxville, TN actively coaching, podcasting, public speaking, and writing. She co-hosts Writing Works Wonders with Cheryl McNeil Fisher and participates in several associations related to visual impairments and blindness, including American Council of the Blind, Council of Citizens of Low Vision, and Behind Our Eyes.
Awards
Her 2018 book, Technology and Innovation in Adult Learning, garnered the Textbook Excellence award from Textbook and Academic Authors (TAA).
In 2017, Dr. King was awarded membership in the prestigious TAA’s Council of Fellows because of her achievement in academic publishing and service to the association.
She was inducted into The International Continuing and Adult Education Hall of Fame in 2011. This exceptional honor recognized her outstanding contributions to adult and higher education.
Education
Kathy earned her bachelors in Biochemistry from Brown University, Providence Rhode Island. She has a master’s in theology from Columbia International University in South Carolina. Kathy also earned a doctorate and second master’s in Education from Widener University, in Chester, Pennsylvania.
