I felt rather small,
Gazing up into sturdy trees tall,
Wondering why the sky is always blue,
When colored leaves in autumn flew.
As I walked, I let my imagination soar,
Not conscious of the feel of the forest floor,
Until my feet seemed to drop,
My body disappearing from that spot.
As I fell and floated there,
I seemed to be going sideways in midair.
My mind was lost in a distant haze.
I seemed to be traveling in a maze.
Time seemed to flee my predicament.
Space seemed vast on my descent.

Time Portal
I was walking through the woods behind the house where I grew up when I noticed a cave that hadn’t been there before. I entered the small opening. Suddenly everything went black. I opened my eyes again and the neighborhood looked strange. Half the houses were missing and those that remained looked different. Our house was half built with tar paper where siding should be. A young woman was hanging out laundry to dry with a baby beside her on a blanket. On closer inspection I realized that the woman was my mother and the baby was me.
