Note: Modified excerpt from “Tremulous Times” in my 4 Elements of Mystery Stories.
He was lying on smooth, hot sand wearing only a bathing suit. Sparkles danced in his eyes as sunlight glinted off the blueish ocean water.
A flash, a rumbling boom, then the water began to churn and froth. The wind picked up, grayness hovered overhead while the gleaming white sparkles turned into pellets of freezing rain landing in the water with echoing plops and spits, pelting his body all over. Alex was unable to move.

A Stroll at the Beach

We decided to go for a walk on the boardwalk. As we strolled along, a light rain started. We kept going. The wind picked up and there looked like a sandstorm on the beach. We dashed to the rail. It was beautiful. sand was blowing around. Suddenly, the rain pelted down and thunder clapped and lightning lit the darkened sky. We started running back toward the parking lot.
