Nocturnal Neanderings
(Lyrical)
05/20/2022
Frog croaked a warning
From his hiding place in the grass,
While turtle slowly ambled
Across the treacherous road to pass.
Dragonfly buzzed a look out
From the midnight sky up above,
While butterfly flitted among flowers
Leaving sweet nectar with love.
Fortunately turtle completed his trek
Across the wide road in the dark of night.
Dragonfly buzzed. Frog continued to croak.
Among the flowers butterfly continued to alight.

Frog and Turtle were relaxing after a sumptuous meal. “I wish I could fly.” Commented Frog. “That would be an amazing experience.” “You might someday. I’ve seen how high you can jump.”
Said Turtle.
Meanwhile, Dragonfly and Butterfly were flitting from flower to flower. “Wouldn’t it be fantastic if we could swim?” asked Dragonfly. I’ve noticed how nicely you skim across the water, so you might do that someday.” Replied Butterfly.

Frog and Turtle
are struggling up a hill.
Who would they turn to
with the needed helping skill.
They’d want agile lifters
who’s wings are wide and strong.
And good grasping fingers
to help them along.
So as the Frog and Turtle,
hop or pace, as each may,
the Dragonfly and Butterfly
will pull them on the way.
And at the summit, at the top,
they will all in exhaustion, flop !

My sister and I have our backpacks filled,
Then jump on our bikes, Whoop-whoop! Here we go!
Adventure ahead, we peddle real fast,
And wave to our friends and neighbors we know.
Quietly we walk to our favorite place,
While Butterflies whisper and dragonflies sing.
The frogs make a splash, but the turtle steps out,
Waddles to greet us, to see what we bring.

And here’s my writing prompt. It’s a very different style for me, but I literally woke up thinking about this, and all I had to do was get up and write it down. Refining took almost no time because I could hear it in my brain. This almost never happens for me, so hope y’all enjoy it as much as I did. And if not, let me know why. Anyway, here goes.
Such a cavalcade. Such a parade!
Butterfly floating.
Turtle plodding.
Dragonfly hovering, diving and darting.
And frog ever-joyous, croaking and hopping.
But a parade to where and for why?
No one could say.
But that’s the way it all started that day.
It started with floating, plodding, darting and hopping.
Next came a noise—chaotic and heart-stopping.
Frog bounced back, knocking Dragonfly down, into Butterfly, onto Turtle plodding the ground.

Just a comment. These are so fun–both to read and to write. I’m ever amazed by the variety of ways we each treat these prompts. So cool!
