The Band Goes Irish
By Trish Hubschman

Tidalwave was going to Europe. They had scheduled dates in England, Ireland and Scotland. I was so excited, particularly about Ireland.

“My maternal grandfather came over from Dublin,” I told Danny. “He was a small man. People teased him about being one of Santa’s elves. Grandpa Sean would reply, No siree, I’m not , I’m a leprechaun.” I was laughing. Danny was too. “I can’t wait to see some of the magical places. there”

He smiled. “It all starts with the hotel we’re staying in. It’s a converted castle, called The Magic Band.’ We both laughed again.

“Top o’ the mornin’ Miss,” the lead one said as he bowed before me.
“Lucky, do tell me your news.”
“His Lord MacNeil has decreed, we now get to carry pocketfuls of our beloved Lucky Charms marshmallow candy. For they alone are
magically delicious, spreading joy and blessings throughout the land.
With a bow he said,”My Lady, I present you my first.”
“Thank you Lucky. You have certainly brightened my day!”

(Ballad)

On a sweet, soft fertle lawn I stooped to find,
A four-leaf clover of a brilliant green perfect kind.
Behind stood a brick castle, before, a crystal-clear mote,
But I had no recollection of arriving in a boat.

Sparkling sunlight danced with glee,
Off the clear water with magical mystery.
Were there wee Leprechauns afoot?
My eyes scrutinized to glimpse a look.

As I started toward the tall castle, I began to say,
“Will this lovely clover bring luck this beautiful day?”
Clear, rich vibrant blue the sky stretched above,
Reflecting on the water with dazzling love.
