I blinked my eyes. This had to be a dream, but no, the scarecrows were still dancing around my backyard to Tidalwave music.
I glanced around to see if the neighbors lights had gone on. No, all else was quiet.
I was the only one privy to this. What was I to do?
Decision made, I grabbed my robe and dashed from the bedroom. I was going outside to confront those scarecrows.

I fell asleep thinking of the Halloween party I had just attended. I woke to hear haunting music. I peeked out my window and saw an amazing scene. A full moon shone on a group of scarecrows dancing with witches. Skeletons clacked out a rhythm on their bones while jack-o-lanterns sang along. At the first sign of dawn I heard a whoosh and all evidence of the party was gone.

Loud music from my back yard woke me at midnight. Leaping out of bed, I hurried to the window and saw scarecrows having a party. The song playing on their boom box was “If I Only Had a Brain.”

Flinging open the window, I yelled, “Who do you think I am, the wizard of Oz? If I were to give you brains, you’d think they were trains and jump out of the way.”

Startled awake, disoriented, David rose on unsteady legs. Tripping on the rug, he stumbled to the window to look outside. His shout woke his wife, Denise.

“David, what is that racket?”

David ran a hand down his face as he stared in the pale moonlight. “Scarecrows. Looks like they’re eating something.”

“Oo, let me see.” She came to the window. “Open it.”

They both began to gag with the stench of ravaged death.
